Cold War II?

Cold War II?

In an earlier post I talked about the United States' plan to put some Star Wars bases on European soil. Well, it has not gone over well with Russia. Here is an interesting Guardian story.

If there is a new cold war, I doubt Russia will be the primary "enemy." They do not have enough capital to go through another cold war. China would be a much bigger concern. But I do not see that all that likely either because China's economy depends on the US. Think of it this way, the US can survive with out Chinese goods but can China survive with out US business? Or would their economy collapse? I would bet a cut off of trade would be worse for China then the US.

So why even implement Star Wars? Well for one, to protect the US against rogue missiles from countries like Iran (that is the official reason for the bases in Europe). And two, to protect against missiles from countries such as China and Russia. Even though they are not saying this, I think it has the capability for that. That would explain why Russia is so angry over it.
